I’ve never heard the place mentioned on the forum, ever, so it doesn’t have any broad base yet. That could be a broadening experience, but it’s not necessarily ideal for a vacation. When you have a place where everyone is there because of a commonality and a desire for free expression that isn’t available everywhere, it’s going to feel like a club where the different person is on the outside and is going to be very aware of not being in the circle. I totally understand not wanting to be the only one of any persuasion. You don’t get a tree fern forest in a sunny climate. It’s neither Volcano nor Hilo, and the climate is wet (the sunny scene you see in the photos is not the average). Sure the owners have created a nice space, but the area itself has many dicey characters, and has nothing much but one small store and a bakery. I personally would never recommend Fern Acres, which is another one of the cheap land subdivisions of Puna. If your primary interest is to do a retreat, that is different than picking a touring base. Right, so there is the issue in your question and the issue of the right location for your plans.
